Oglebay Institute’s School of Dance in Wheeling, West Virginia, invites aspiring dancers ages 6-21 to study with master instructors during our Summer Dance Intensive June 18-24.

This intensive provides professional, focused training in the disciplines of Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Modern and vocal coaching from highly accomplished guest faculty to help prepare students for success in today’s diverse world of dance.

Students will stretch their talents, strengthen their knowledge of various dance forms and broaden their understanding of what it means to be a dancer with insight into the world of professional dance.

All students will have the opportunity to perform what they’ve learned at a special showcase for family and friends 10am Saturday, June 24 at The Linsly School.

Week-long accommodations available at The Linsly School

Option A: Day session and lunch ($500 per student)

  • Daily intensive 9am-5pm at OI’s School of Dance
  • Lunch daily at The Linsly School
  • Meet & greet and welcome dinner 5:30pm Sun., June 18 at The Linsly School
  • Commemorative t-shirt

Option B: Day & evening sessions, lunch and dinner ($700 per student

  • Daily intensive 9am-5pm at OI’s School of Dance
  • Lunch and dinner daily at The Linsly School
  • Meet & greet and welcome dinner 5:30pm Sun., June 18 at The Linsly School
  • Water aerobic, conditioning and strength training classes 6:30-8:30pm nightly at The Linsly School
  • Commemorative t-shirt

Option C: Full residential camp with all meals & lodging
($1,200 per student. Available to ages 10 & up only.)

  • Lodging with overnight accommodations at The Linsly School

Julia Erickson
Julia Erickson

Julia Erickson – Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Principal 

Julia Erickson, originally from Seattle, received her training on scholarship with Pacific Northwest Ballet School and San Francisco Ballet School.  She has toured to Europe and Asia with PNB and danced with Texas Ballet Theater for two seasons prior to joining PBT in 2001.  She was promoted to soloist in 2004 and to principal in 2009. Among her principal roles, Julia has performed Swan Lake (Odette/Odile), La Bayadère(Nikiya), The Sleeping Beauty (Aurora, Lilac Fairy, Carabosse), La Sylphide (the Sylph), Diana and Acteon, and Balanchine’s Theme and VariationsWho Cares?, Prodigal Son, Sylvia Pas de DeuxAgon, and Serenade. She has also danced the roles of Lady Capulet in Jean-Christophe Maillot’s Roméo et Juliette, Myrtha in Giselle, “An Episode in his Past” in Antony Tudor’s Jardin Aux Lilas (Lilac Garden), the Wife in Jerome Robbins’ The Concert, and featured roles in Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream(Helena, Hyppolita), The Four Temperaments (2nd Theme) and Divertamento Number 15. Her contemporary repertory includes Paul Taylor’s Company B; Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper RoomNine Sinatra Songs, and Octet; and Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort. Julia is the recipient of the 2014 BRAZZY Award for outstanding female dancer and is an entrepreneur and writer.

Erik (Cheeto) Zito
Erik (Cheeto) Zito

Erik (Cheeto) Zito – Award-wining hip hop dancer & choreographer 

Erik (Cheeto) Zito has been dancing for 10 years and minored in dance at The University of Akron. As a dancer, he has performed in many venues and groups such as the Indiana Pacers. His many honors include best performer, best choreography, 1st overall, and platinum in competitive dance. He is the founder and lead choreographer for the University of Akron’s Hip-Hop club and is the program coordinator of Ballet in Cleveland’s “Guys Dance Too” initiative.

Hilary Jereza
Hilary Jereza

Hilary Jereza – West Virginia Dance Company

Hilary Jereza is a native of Glen Dale, West Virginia and a graduate of the University at Buffalo with a Bachelors of Art in Dance. She has been dancing with the West Virginia Dance Company for six years and teaches at the Trillium School for Performing Arts in Lewisburg. Hilary has also worked as a featured dancer, dance captain and choreographic assistant at Theatre West Virginia. She has choreographed for regional theaters and dance companies, and performs professionally with UB Zodique Dance Ensemble, UB Emerging Choreographers Showcase, and Saya Woolfalk: No Place – Life Art Performance – Museum Space of Harlem, NY.

Kim Kafana
Kim Kafana

Kimberlee Kafana – Strength training & conditioning instructor

Kimberlee Kafana has been dancing and tumbling for more than 40 years. Kim has studied with many nationally and internationally known master teachers. She is United States Gymnastics Federation certified in safety & spotting, and also holds a certification in Barre Blend. She has performed in local productions of The Nutcracker with the Wheeling Symphony as well as many Oglebay Institute productions.

Heather Henthorne
Heather Henthorne

Heather Henthorne – Certified group fitness & water aerobics instructor

Heather Henthorne is a NETA Group Fitness certified group fitness instructor, experienced in leading a variety of fitness classes and formats for all ages and fitness levels. She has a passion for dance fitness and instructs Water Aerobics, HIIT, Step, toning and strength classes on a regular basis. Other certification licenses and training include Bender Ball Pilates, Barre Blend, Yoga, Boot Camp and CPR.

Bill Stephens
Bill Stephens

Bill Stephens – Vocal coach

Bill Stephens has been a music educator for the past 29 years and has served as band and choir director for Buckeye Local high school in Rayland, Ohio for the past 23 years. Mr. Stephens has degrees in Music Education and Conducting from West Liberty University and Kent State University.
