School of Dance
Dance at Oglebay Institute is dynamic - offering more classes for all ages than any other studio in the region. Dance is offered in disciplines as diverse as belly dancing to classical ballet. Under the coordination of dance director Cheryl Pompeo, swing, ballroom, tap, jazz, folk dance, and fitness classes are offered throughout the year.
Designed to heighten awareness and appreciation of dance as an art form, the Oglebay Institute dance curriculum presents dance as a means of communication and creative expression and explores dance in various cultures and historical periods.
Classes and camps promote a physically active lifestyle and provide opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and social interaction.
In addition, OI offers opportunities for dancers to perform publicly, furthering its mission to teach dance not only as recreation but also as an art form. The OI dance troupe performs three shows each season- a classical ballet in the fall, The Nutcracker during the holiday season and a spring concert that combines both classical and modern dance numbers.
