Event Details

Join John Whitehead, professor of film studies at Wheeling Jesuit University, for a discussion of the film Bonnie and Clyde during the popular Lunch with Books program.  Meet other movie lovers.  You can learn more about the art and history of film, too.

Noon, Tuesday, March 14, 2017
Ohio County Public Library
Free

Bonnie and Clyde is Arthur Penn’s masterpiece about Depression-era criminals who became folk heroes. They were Robin Hoods to the impoverished multitudes of the 1930s. They were also revolutionaries to the politicized students of the 1960s. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway are unforgettable as the leaders of a misfit gang of bank robbers.

Does Bonnie and Clyde romanticize its anti-heroes, or do they get what they deserve? You decide.

About the Wheeling Film Society:

Oglebay Institute, Wheeling Jesuit University and the Ohio County Public partnered to form the Wheeling Film Society. WFS events bring movie buffs together to watch and then discuss some of America’s most iconic films. Screenings and post-screening discussions are free and open to the public. Movies are shown at Towngate Theatre. Then, conversations about the films take place at the Ohio County Public Library during Lunch with Books.

About Lunch with Books:

“Lunch With Books” is the Ohio County Public Library’s flagship program for adult patrons. Bring a bag lunch and enjoy presentations by authors, poets, historians, musicians and a variety of other people. Complimentary beverages are provided.
