More about Dr. Ben Stout:

Dr. Stout graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Forestry and earned a Master’s Degree in Biology from Tennessee Technological University. Prior to obtaining his Doctorate of Philosophy in Biology from Virginia Tech, Ben taught as an Instructor of Biology at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College in Williamson and Logan, WV, in the “heart of the billion dollar coal field.” For his work fighting to uphold the Clean Water Act, Ben was named Environmental Steward by the North American Benthological Society in 2007. In 2013 he received the Don Gasper Science in the Public Interests Award by the West Virginia Environmental Council and was named as one of 25 “Visionaries” by Appalachian Voices. But Ben’s “most humbling experience” is being included in the first class of Fellows of the Society of Freshwater Sciences in 2017. Ben is currently a Professor of Biology at Wheeling Jesuit University, WV, where he has taught and conducted research for 26 years and helped raise Benjamin, Robert, and William with Kathleen Marie Kyle Stout. Over his career, Ben’s goal has been to “try and help bring the voice of science to the people.”
