“The Breakfast Club,” John Hughes’ iconic 1985 film about teen angst is the definitive 80s teen movie.

It stars Molly Ringwald (“The Princess”), Anthony Michael Hall (“The Brain”), Emilio Estevez (“The Athlete”), Judd Nelson (“The Criminal”) and Ally Sheedy (“The Basket Case) as teenagers from different high school cliques who spend a Saturday in detention. Secrets are revealed; relationships are formed and dancing is done as they discover how they have a lot more in common than they thought.

The movie, like others by Hughes (“Sixteen Candles,” “Pretty in Pink”), captivated teens because it perfectly captured how many teens feel—like outcasts.

The music from the film was also influential. A quote from David Bowie’s song “Changes” sets the film up at the very beginning. “…And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations. They’re quite aware of what they’re going through…”

Simple Minds recorded the famous “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” which was written specifically for the film. The song became a defining hit of the new wave movement and perfectly echoed the spirit of the film.

Tickets for all screenings can be purchased at the door and are $7 per person. Box office opens one hour prior to each screening.  You can purchase beer, wine, soda, water, popcorn and candy at all Towngate movies.
