Party Like the Groundlings in the Globe Theater’s Pit!
WHEELING, W.Va. (April 14, 2016)- – Oglebay Institute and OVConnect are hosting an evening of the Bard and brews to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s legacy and the First Folio’s visit to Wheeling.
“ShakesBEER in the Park” takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at the Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater at Oglebay Resort.
Guess will be greeted by a falconer and entertained by The Rustic Mechanicals,
WV’s only professional touring Shakespeare theater troupe. Sword-fighting, brawling, short rowdy Shakespeare scenes, carnival-style games and “pop sonnets” take place throughout the evening.
Refreshments include an assortment of “Shakesbeers” served with meat pies, cheese pies, turkey legs and hunks of cheese and bread.
“ShakesBEER in the Park” coincides with the exhibit First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare, on tour from the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC. Oglebay Institute’s Mansion Museum was chosen as the only location in West Virginia for the First Folio tour through the United States. An original 1623 First Folio and accompanying exhibit are on display May 9- June 12 at Oglebay Institute’s Mansion Museum.
A variety of ticket levels are available for “ShakesBEER in the Park” including discounts for members of Oglebay Institute and OVConnect. A special “Lords and Ladies” VIP package is available, which includes early admission, a souvenir ale tankard and other perks. A “Knight in Shining Armor” ticket price will be offered for designated drivers.
