Artists in Residence Celebrate Creative Growth at Stifel Fine Arts Center

Saying goodbye is never easy—especially when you’ve spent three months embraced by a community that feels like home.
“I’m going to miss Wheeling so much!” shared Audra Clayton, reflecting on her time as an Artist in Residence with Oglebay Institute. “I met the most incredible people, and each group I connected with enhanced my creative journey.”

Clayton, along with fellow Artists in Residence Casey Miller and Griffin Nordstrom, spent the spring months at the Stifel Fine Arts Center creating new bodies of work, teaching workshops, and engaging with students and community members across their artistic disciplines. Their residency culminated in a final exhibition at Oglebay Park Lodge, where all three artists gathered for an opening reception near the Hickman Lounge on June 19.

For Casey Miller, the experience offered both inspiration and momentum.
“Having that time and space to create—and a welcoming community—was really great,” she shared.

Griffin Nordstrom echoed that sentiment, noting how meaningful it was to work alongside other artists while developing his own practice.
“It was great to have a dedicated space to work and also connect with the other artists at the same time.”
During his residency, Nordstrom also stepped into a new role as Assistant Director of Museums for Oglebay Institute, deepening his connection to the organization.

The exhibition, featuring new work created during the residency, will remain on display near the Hickman Lounge through June 30. It is free and open to the public.
