Oglebay Institute Announces Two-Day Summer Workshop with Acclaimed Actor-Musician Ryan McCurdy

Oglebay Institute’s School of Dance is proud to announce a special two‑day summer workshop, Acting and Dance Through Song: Learn Audition Techniques, led by actor, musician, and theatrical producer Ryan McCurdy. The intensive will take place June 30–July 1, 2026, from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at the School of Dance, located at 1330 National Road in Wheeling.

Designed for performers ages 12 and up, this immersive experience strengthens each student’s vocal clarity, musical expression, and emotional connection to song. Through McCurdy’s signature blend of physical and mental techniques, participants learn how to engage lyrics with authenticity, uncover the “core” of a song, and stay fully present in performance.

The workshop includes:

  • One full day of one‑on‑one coaching, allowing each performer to work directly with McCurdy on a selected piece.
  • A second day of group instruction, featuring collaborative exercises, optional performances, and in‑the‑moment work using both musical theater and popular repertoire.
  • Practical audition training, equipping students with repeatable tools they can use in school productions, community theater, and professional auditions.

Participants are asked to bring one song and sheet music they wish to develop during the workshop.

McCurdy brings a wealth of experience to Wheeling, with credits spanning Broadway, Off‑Broadway, regional theater, film, and television, as well as extensive work in both public and private arts education. His multidisciplinary background makes this workshop a rare opportunity for young performers in the Ohio Valley to train with a nationally recognized artist.

Tuition for the two‑day workshop is $160. Space is limited to ensure individualized attention, and early registration is encouraged.
