Marching Down Freedom's Road: A Civil Rights Tour of the South

Join us at 3pm Saturday, February 17 at Towngate Theatre for the presentation “Marching Down Freedom’s Road: A Civil Rights Tour of the South.”

This presentation is part of Oglebay Institute’s recognition of Black History Month.

Melody Meadows is the featured speaker. In the summer of 2023, Meadows traveled to the South with Classrooms Without Borders. This organization places professional educators where history happened, so they can bring back information and share the experiences with their students and communities.

Meadows will share the history of some of the seminal moments of the Civil Rights Movement through photos and personal reflections of the places and people instrumental to the movement. Included will be the sit-in in Greensboro, Bloody Sunday in Selma, the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, and the Freedom Riders journey through the South. There will be a talk-back and social time after the presentation.

Light refreshments will be served, and drinks will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public.
