Whether we’re mixing paints, sculpting with clay, or drawing a masterpiece, every class is an adventure in color, shape, and imagination.

Stained Glass
Learn glass cutting techniques while exploring the characteristics of glass. From beginner to advanced.

Leaded Glass – Intermediate Stained Glass
Participants will learn how to design their own panels and artwork, work with lead came,
and cement panels. Leaded panels are intended for architectural use and can evolve into window making. Class participants will work on a large project week to week, with the guidance of instructor and local artist, Kellie White. All materials and tools are provided; bring yourself and your creativity!

Woodcarving
For beginners to expert. Learn woodcarving techniques at your own pace from experienced carvers.

Beginner to Intermediate Graphite Drawing
This 8-week class will guide you through foundational graphite drawing skills to improve your abilities as an artist. Whether you are brand new to drawing or are looking to expand your knowledge, this class will teach a range of topics related to drawing in graphite including portraying light and shadow, perspective, still life, portraits, and more. Build confidence, explore techniques, and learn how to draw with greater accuracy in a fun, supportive environment.

Intermediate Portrait Painting – NEW!

Ready to take your portrait work to the next level? This class is designed for students who already have some painting experience and are ready to strengthen their ability to paint the human face with more confidence and accuracy. In this four-week session, we’ll continue developing essential portrait skills through guided studies that focus on: building stronger form and structure, improving proportions and facial features, creating realistic light and shadow, mixing and choosing effective skin tones and color harmony and developing brushwork and technique to create a more finished painterly portrait. Students will receive demonstrations, individual instruction, and constructive feedback each week to support growth in both technical skill and artistic expression. This class is perfect for painters looking to deepen their understanding of portrait painting and further develop their abilities as an artist.

Beginning to Intermediate Oil Painting
Explore what you need to start painting with oils. Learn what material to use and how to use them to produce your painting. Paint along with Greg and on your own with guidance. A material list will be emailed to you.

Intermediate to Advanced Oil Painting
Expanding from the Beginning Oil Painting. Painting throughout the 8-week session. Expanding on painting Alla Prima (all at once) and Traditional Paint (wet on dry). We will explore tone, value, and color theory. We go deeper into composition. We will look at the selection of materials, how to choose the color and the properties and selection of oil paints available, how to make the selection of brushes and knives, and how to use them. We will explore the different painting surfaces and how to prepare them for oil painting, demonstrate how to stretch a canvas and prepare it for oil paint, and how to varnish the painted works. A material list will be emailed to you.

Hand Building Pottery with Rick Morgan – SOLD OUT!
Discover the art of creating beautiful, functional pottery – no wheel required! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn traditional hand building techniques including slab, coil, and pinch methods to create unique ceramic pieces. Projects may include cups, mugs, plates, bowls, and other creative forms. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to expand your skills, this class offers a supportive space to explore and create. Open Pottery Studio
This is open to students who have taken pottery classes at the Stifel Fine Arts Center before. There will be no instructor during open studio, but students will receive shelf space and may make a maximum of 16 pots. Additional pots $5 each. Participate in a Raku firing May 13th.

Magic of the Pottery Wheel (Spring 2026)

Students will work with clay on the POTTERY WHEEL and use a variety of hand building techniques that will produce amazing results. All pottery will be glazed and food safe.

Echos & Impressions: Encaustics Mark-Making Workshop
Discover how to draw, etch, and press your own marks into wax. This workshop focuses on the expressive possibilities of encaustic surface work — from scratching and carving to imprinting with fabric, stamps, and found textures. Freddie will show how to use pigment sticks and oil glazes to accentuate marks and build rhythm and movement across the piece. (Limit 10)

Ceramic Underglazing with Goldie
Explore the art of painting with underglazes to add stunning, hand-painted designs to your pottery. In this workshop, you’ll learn a variety of brush techniques to create shading, depth, and fine details. Our focus will be on painting leaves and flowers on bone-dry clay. Participants are welcome to bring a bone-dry piece of their own to decorate with guidance and personalized instruction. (Limit 10)

Tin Collage Workshop
In this class, you will learn how to create a color, value, and texture palette using printed/colored repurposed metal from tin cans and other metal materials. Students will learn how to deconstruct various metal containers and materials, then attaching these materials to an armature (support). Using your palette of metal, you will learn to how to create original, one-of-a kind works of art that carry your personal vision.

Techniques or skills taught in workshop:
selecting metal; learning about the various types of snips; cutting metal; safety; armatures; preparing metal for attachment to armature; making changes (corrections); preparing your finished work for display.

Material outcome of the workshop:
Student will leave with #1: a set of skills that enable to create work using repurposed metal; #2: student will leave with a completed (or partially completed) project.

Stifel Fine Arts Center and student will provide tools; student will provide materials based on a list from the instructor. (Limit 10)

Threading Into Ceramic Forms Workshop

This workshop will cover throwing, trimming, planning incisions, and threading into ceramic vessels with materials post-firing. We will cover methods for creating mixed-media works that play with the form and texture of a cup, while still serving its functional purpose. (Held at the Ft. Experimenting with Composite Structures

Ruth will demonstrate the toolkit of techniques she uses to build her sculptures. Tinkering both mentally and physically with classic building methods have helped her create a menu of options for achieving desired outcomes. Wheel throwing, slabs building, carving, mold making, and additives to clay are incorporated into her bold large scale ceramic forms. She will discuss her experimental approach to both overall construction, and textured surface treatments. (Held at the Ft. Henry Room in Wilson Lodge, located at Oglebay Park.) (Limit 50)

Clay & Print: Writing and Publishing for Ceramic Artists Workshop

Join Holly Goring, managing editor of Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated, and Katie Reaver, editor of Ceramics Monthly, as they walk listeners through the writing and publishing process from proposal to print. Wire Wrapped Rainbow Fluorite Pendant Workshop

In this workshop, you will learn & practice basic wire wrapping skills to make a beautiful gemstone pendant. You will use sterling silver wire, small gemstone bead embellishments, and a top drilled bead made of Rainbow Fluorite, a gemstone ranging in colors from blue to green to purple. Fluorite symbolizes clartiy, focus, and harmony. It provides strength to make decisions that will lead us towards serenity and abundance in life. This workshop is an intermediate skill level and requires some hand strength and dexterity to wire wrap. (Limit 10)

Pattern Play with Margaret Kinkeade Workshop

By translating the logic of patternmaking to hand-built ceramics, Margaret Kinkeade reveals how flipping, stacking, and altering template-cut slabs can create a spectrum of related yet distinct objects. In this two-hour demonstration, Kinkeade also touches on her quilt-inspired surface decoration and how she uses mishima to extend the use of pattern from form to surface. (Held at the Ft. Henry Room in Wilson Lodge, located at Oglebay Park.)

Steampunk Resin Workshop (Spring 2026)   

Discover Steampunk, an art form inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery that incorporates machine parts like gears and clock hands to create fantasy 3D pieces. In this Resin workshop you can choose to make either a ring OR 1 pair of stud earrings. You will end up with a 12mm round mini collage of tiny assorted antique watch parts which will be preserved forever under a clear glass-like resin. After the resin has cured for 24 hours you can stop by the Stifle Center at your convenience to pick up your creation.

Vintage Key Necklace Workshop (Spring 2026)
In this hour-long workshop you will learn some basic jewelry making skills, including beginner wire wrapping, to make your very own one-of-a-kind necklace. You will choose from a variety of materials including a vintage key of your choice, faceted glass beads & a charm of your choice. You will also learn to make a custom chain at whatever length you prefer.
This workshop encourages creative exploration rather than perfection—layering materials, trying new combinations, and letting happy accidents lead the way. Your sketchbook will become a personal treasure: a place to capture ideas, explore color, and express your unique artistic voice.
No experience necessary—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to play!

Crystal Sun Catchers Workshop (Spring 2026)
Add a little sparkle to your life this spring!! In this hour-long workshop, we’ll make two crystal sun catchers using colorful glass beads & crystals. Hang them the rear-view mirror of your car or in a sunny window. They’ll catch the light & reflect beautiful rainbow prisms all around.

Foundations in Encaustics: Beginner Workshop (Spring 2026) 

This class is designed for those new to encaustic or new to working with wax. Participants will learn the essential materials, tools, safety practices, and basic techniques, gaining confidence through guided experimentation and simple compositions. This is also a good review for past students. Students will leave with a ready-to-hang abstract piece of art.

Blossoming Beauty, Growing your Encaustic Practice: Intermediate Workshop (Spring 2026)
For artists with prior encaustic experience, this class focuses on refining technique, layering, texture, and surface development. Students will explore more complex approaches while beginning to shape an individual visual language. This is also a good review for past students. Students will leave with a ready-to-hang piece of art.

Encaustic as Expression, Concept, Intention, and Personal Voice: Advance Workshop (Spring 2026)
This advanced-level class focuses on transferring photographic and printed imagery onto encaustic wax and manipulating those images through layering, fusing, and surface intervention. Students will explore advanced texture-building techniques, image distortion, and integration of image and wax, developing work that balances control with material unpredictability. Students will leave with a ready-to-hang artwork.

Have you wanted to try your hand at working with stained glass? Well, here is your opportunity to make and take home a finished night light to brighten your home. You will get to choose from a few pre-selected Easter themed patterns, learn the basics of the tools required and techniques used to create your night light.

Stained- Glass Tulip Panel Workshop (Spring 2026)

Get ready for Spring with this two-day stained -glass workshop, designed for those with some experience working with stained glass. You will be working on a larger piece. There will be preselected patterns to choose from to create your tulip-inspired panel. The rest is up to you. You are welcome to bring snacks/sack lunch if you so desire.
