Join us for a fun morning with Dr. Seuss and some Seussical science projects 10am-12pm Saturday, February 29 at the Schrader Center.

We’ll read stories by Dr. Seuss (who would celebrate his 116th birthday this March!) and then honor his work with some STEM projects. Make some Ooblek slime, have an egg drop after Horton Hatches an Egg, and plant some Lorax inspired seeds.

Open to children in grades 1-6. $12 ($10 OI members).

Replace your child’s screen time with green time! Our family nature programs bring families together for quality time learning about nature. So, get outside and explore! Activities ignite children’s interests in science and nature. Children socialize with other kids outside of a traditional classroom setting. They have a lot of fun, too. And parents meet and connect with other parents. Most of all, our programs instill a lifelong appreciation and respect for the natural world.

Sweeten up your world 5:30-6:30pm Tuesday, March 3 at the Schrader Center during our Maple Campfire Cookout.

Maple sugaring season provides an opportunity to add a sweet ingredient to many dishes. We’ll slow bake sweet potatoes in the coals of the campfire, and then enjoy them with a drizzle of maple syrup from the Schrader sugar bush. Crispy bacon and maple-glazed nuts will round-out our delectable menu.

Admission is $8 ($5 OI members) per person. Open to family sand adults of all ages. Pre-registration required.

Join us for a fun and exciting day of badge work March 28 at the Schrader Center as our naturalists lead Junior Girl Scout groups on the completion of up to five badges.

The morning session (9:30am-11:30am) will cover the Animal Habitats and Space Science Investigator badges. The afternoon session (12-2pm) will cover the Flowers, Gardener and Outdoor Art Explorer badges.

Sign up for one or both sessions! If you come to both, please bring a lunch. Morning check-in begins at 9am; afternoon check-in begins at 11:30am.

$20 per scout, per session or $30 per scout for both sessions.

Visit the Schrader Center Friday, April 10 for our classic family Easter event.

Craft an Easter bag, then head outside to see how many Easter eggs you can find. Certain ones will win you a prize. Inside, check out an exhibit on real bird eggs and nests, then swing by the physical science table for some “egg”credible demonstrations. Best of all, the Easter Bunny will be stopping by to visit with everyone!

Admission is $5 per child and includes face painting, drinks and freshly popped popcorn. Adults are admitted for free and must accompany their children.

Join author, self-advocate and motivational speaker David A. George for an inspirational workshop 6:30-8:30pm Monday, April 20 at the Schrader Center in Oglebay Park.

David seeks to create a community support system by connecting those with Asperger’s syndrome, autism or other learning disabilities to the healing power of music, nature imagery and time spent together in nature.

Copies of David’s book, “Be Unique, Be You & Live!” will be available to purchase.

Celebrate Earth Day Wednesday, April 22 at the Schrader Center as we look for wildflowers, birds, animal tracks and more along the trails of Oglebay Park.

Pace is mild and terrain is easy. Hike begins 8:30am at the Schrader Center and wil last approximately one hour.

Explore the solar and lunar skies Saturday, May 2 at Speidel Observatory in Oglebay Park.  The Oglebay Astronomy Club leads all activities.

From 1-4 p.m., you can tour the facility. Try your eye at solar observing, too! See a meteorite display, and participate in space science activities. Observe the evening sky through telescopes and learn about the constellations from 8-11 p.m. (weather permitting).

All ages are invited to attend this free program.

Bring your sleeping bags and tent for an overnight camping experience June 6-7 at the Schrader Center in Oglebay Park.

Activities include a live animal presentation, dinner, s’mores around the campfire and a short night hike. In the morning, enjoy a relaxing bird walk and breakfast before packing-up camp. A Schrader Center naturalist will coordinate activities and be on-site for the entire experience. Suitable for families of all ages.

Program beings 4pm Saturday, June 6 and ends at 10am the following day.
