The story of “Alice in Wonderland” was penned more than 150 years ago, yet this engaging fantasy of a young girl and her adventures into a world of enchantment has remained popular with young and old alike. Oglebay Institute’s Youth Ballet Company will creatively bring this timeless classic from the page to the stage.

Join the Crazy 8s for a night of improvisational comedy in Wheeling. These brave performers hit the Towngate Theatre stage without a script, props or a safety net. Armed only with adrenaline and their imaginations, they make-up stories on the spot that entertain and amuse.

Audience members offer suggestions for scenes, conflicts, characters and theatrical styles and contribute directly to the action on stage.

Made up of high school and college students, the Crazy 8s are brave, talented and oh, so funny! Each performance is filled with creative comedy and laughs galore.

Moviegoers have the option to have dinner in Towngate’s social room prior to the screening. Park once and enjoy twice the fun!

Buffet dinners will be served promptly at 6:30 p.m. before each film. After dinner, head upstairs for the movie at 7:30 p.m. The cost for dinner is $20 and includes your seat for the movie, all food, soft drinks, coffee, tea, water and a box of popcorn to enjoy during the film. Beer and wine are available for purchase.

You must make reservations for dinner by 5 p.m. Wednesday prior to the screening. You don’t need to make reservations for the film.

The Gallery at Towngate

Towngate Theatre is well known in Wheeling and its surrounding communities for community theater productions, children’s theater, concerts, ballet, film screenings, spoken word and other performing arts events. But did you know that Towngate is also an art gallery? The theater lobby is now home to changing art exhibits.

“The Gallery at Towngate” is an extension of the exhibit season hosted by Oglebay Institute’s Stifel Fine Art Center. This second gallery space provides opportunities for artists to do solo exhibitions without having to fill a space as large as the Stifel Fine Arts Center. The gallery space also enhances the visitor experience for those attending performing arts events at Towngate.

Moviegoers have the option to have dinner in Towngate’s social room prior to the screening. Park once and enjoy twice the fun!

Buffet dinners will be served promptly at 6:30 p.m. before each film. After dinner, head upstairs for the movie at 7:30 p.m. The cost for dinner is $20 and includes your seat for the movie, all food, soft drinks, coffee, tea, water and a box of popcorn to enjoy during the film. Beer and wine are available for purchase.

You must make reservations for dinner by 5 p.m. Wednesday prior to the screening. You don’t need to make reservations for the film.

Killer Keyboard Player!

Hermie Granati is a killer keyboard player, a vocalist, songwriter and producer. He has performed and recorded with the Granati Brothers/G-Force, the Jaggerz, B.E. Taylor, Joe Grushecky, Bo Diddley and other groups. Hermie has appeared across the U.S. and Canada at major concert venues with some of the biggest names in rock and roll from Van Halen to Bruce Springsteen.

Ohio Valley resident recognize him as a staple of the B.E. Taylor Christmas show tours with his signature song “Oh, darling,” which also appears on WQED’s “Tribute to the Beatles.” 

Jellyrolls Favorite!

Harry Levicky is a music teacher and performer, currently with Johnny Angel & The Halos. He had an extensive playing tour of the Midwest and east coast and recorded in Nashville with Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love of the Memphis Horns. For five years, he performed as one of the dueling piano players at Jellyrolls in Station Square in Pittsburgh and regularly works as a dueling piano player at Sing Sing Dueling Piano Bar.

Join us for an evening of spoken word poetry at Towngate Theatre! The Prosers present A Celebration of Spoken Word 8pm, Saturday, January 25, 2020.

Take a mesmerizing journey with The Prosers, a group of local spoken-word artists, as they perform a series of self-written poetry. They’ll share powerful stories of personal struggle and authentic experiences while examining social justice issues. During the performances, singers, songwriters and musicians often join the poets on stage. Most of all, explore the connection between poetry and personal expression.

You can discover and develop your own voice, too. After The Prosers perform, an open mic session closes out the evening. Poets, new and experienced, shy and bold, bring their poems and read aloud to the audience.

Spoken word poetry has a special swagger…

This isn’t your grandma’s poetry reading.  Because the rules are not the same as traditional poetry, spoken word poetry has a special swagger. It is literary rap, impassioned commentary, uninhibited word art, poetry and improvisation all wrapped up in one package. And, it is written to be performed.

Towngate Children’s Theater presents Rapunzel for five performances–January 31, February 1, 2, 7 & 8. Curtain is at 7pm Friday; 3pm Saturday and Sunday.

Adapted from the Brothers Grimm tale by Sidney Berger, the production closely follows the original tale, complete with wicked enchantress, heroic prince and fair maiden.  A witch takes an infant Rapunzel from her parents and locks her in a tower.  As Rapunzel grows up, she has all the luxuries that money –or witchcraft—can provide; yet, she is unhappy because she is deprived of love and affection.  A handsome prince tries to rescue Rapunzel, and plenty of action, suspense, mayhem and mishaps ensue.

Moviegoers have the option to have dinner in Towngate’s social room prior to the screening. Park once and enjoy twice the fun!

Buffet dinners will be served promptly at 6:30 p.m. before each film. After dinner, head upstairs for the movie at 7:30 p.m. The cost for dinner is $20 and includes your seat for the movie, all food, soft drinks, coffee, tea, water and a box of popcorn to enjoy during the film. Beer and wine are available for purchase.

You must make reservations for dinner by 5 p.m. Wednesday prior to the screening. You don’t need to make reservations for the film.

Join the Left of Centre Players for a night of improvisational comedy in Wheeling. These brave performers hit the Towngate Theatre stage without a script, props or a safety net. Armed only with adrenaline and their imaginations, they make-up stories on the spot that entertain and amuse.

Audience members offer suggestions for scenes, conflicts, characters and theatrical styles and contribute directly to the action on stage.

The Players are brave, talented and oh, so funny! Each performance is filled with creative comedy and laughs galore.
