About the Wheeling Jazz Trio
Members of the Wheeling Jazz Trio—Luke Mazure, Jonah Henthorne and Robert Irvin— grew up in Wheeling playing jazz together at Wheeling Park High School. They play different styles of jazz, from standards to fusion/new age compositions.
Luke Mazure is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in woodwinds pursuing a degree in music education at West Virginia University. A Wheeling native, he enjoys playing gigs in the area and being a part of the community. Alongside gigging, Luke is a clinician and private lesson instructor for the Wheeling Park High School Band. Outside of music, Luke enjoys hiking and exploring West Virginia landmarks.
Jonah Henthorne hails from Wheeling and studies music education at WVU, focusing on Drumset and Percussion. He has participated in several ensembles at the University, including Jazz Ensemble 1, Jazz Combos, Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Steel Band, and many others. Outside of school he participates and runs a few bands in the Morgantown area, records and produces music with local artists, and composes works for percussion ensembles. One of his biggest recent projects was writing Wheeling Park High School’s 2023 marching band show alongside Jason Birch and Josh Garrett.
Robert Irvin is a pianist/composer/arranger currently residing in Ithaca, NY. Robert began his musical journey at the age of 6 taking piano lessons. In his late childhood, Robert grew very passionate about improvisation. From this, he dove into the opportunity of playing piano in a jazz ensemble. Along with jazz, he also engaged in accompanying, playing the viola, acting in musical theatre, and singing in choirs. Ultimately, his passion for improvisation, musical theater, and songs from the Great American Songbook solidified his passion for Jazz.
In his collegiate studies, he was introduced to composition and arranging under the guidance of Mike Titlebaum at Ithaca College. Currently, Robert works on learning the traditions of Jazz music, composing new works inspired by original improvisations, collaborating with artists, and producing his own music. In 2023, Robert graduated with a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from Ithaca College.
