“Tell a Story” Workshop with West Virginia Storytelling Guild
Students in grades 4-8 can learn how to craft and tell a five-eight minute story during this workshop with Judi Tarowsky of the WV Storytelling Guild.

The goal of the workshop is to show the participants how to find a story to tell, whether it is an existing story or an original one, prepare it for telling to an audience, and to successfully tell the story. The goal, of course, is to learn how much fun storytelling can be!

A member(s) of the WVSG will lead the participants through some simple exercises and encourage them to begin building their stories on information presented during the morning session. During the afternoon session, the participants will have an opportunity to polish their stories in preparation for an informal performance for parents and friends.

By working with the instructor and other workshop members, the participants will be able to gain confidence in speaking before others, and will be able to mentally organize the material they will be presenting.

Acting Is Believing- NEW INSTRUCTOR & TIME
Explore the basics of acting. Exercises in improvisation, character development, focus, voice & movement help students find truthfulness in acting. Held at Towngate Theatre.

Acting for Adults I
Learn about the craft of acting or hone your skills. Great for both beginners and those with experience. Held at Towngate Theatre.

Acting for Adults II-Scene Study
Prerequisite: Acting for Adults I
Continue to learn about the craft of acting and hone skills. In this class, students will be assigned scenes from plays, prepare and memorize scenes, and research the characters. Held at Towngate Theatre.

Becoming the Character
An introductory look at methods of acting in order to properly develop characters for the stage. The ideal class for beginning actors who want to take their craft to the next level and truly become one with the role they are portraying. Held at Towngate Theatre.

Improvisation
Learn to make up an entire scene from a one-word suggestion. Students will learn the basic method of how to improv, learn and play several improv games, and gain skills in listening, reacting, trust, and teamwork.  Held at Towngate Theatre.

I Like to Move It, Move It!- NEW CLASS & INSTRUCTOR
Explore how movement and voicework bring characters to life. Children will use their natural creativity, unique talents, and potential they possess in an exciting form of play. Held at Towngate Theatre.

Puppet Masters – NEW CLASS & INSTRUCTOR
Discover the world of puppetry and mask work! Students will be building puppets of all shapes and sizes and best of all, making them come to life. Held at Towngate Theatre.

The Magic of Stage Makeup – NEW CLASS & INSTRUCTOR
Students will explore the use of stage make up to create characters they could only imagine. They will get to design and apply makeup skills to create mythical creatures, zombies, blood effects and bruises, and more! Held at Towngate Theatre.

Musical Theatre I (Grades 4-8)
