100 Years Later: Celebrating the Life of Earl W. Oglebay
Free Program at the Mansion Museum

On June 22, 1926, Earl W. Oglebay—philanthropist, visionary, and the man whose generosity shaped one of Wheeling’s most beloved treasures—passed away. One hundred years later, we invite you to step inside his world.

Join us at the Oglebay Institute Mansion Museum for a special commemorative program exploring the remarkable life and legacy of Earl W. Oglebay. From his early days in Wheeling and his rise as one of the youngest bank presidents in the nation, to his leadership in industry, agriculture, and education, Mr. Oglebay’s story is as dynamic as the park that bears his name.

You’ll hear excerpts from his personal letters, including the gripping account of his hurried escape from Europe at the outbreak of World War I. You’ll also see rare photographs, archival materials, and artifacts pulled from the Mansion Museum collection—each one revealing a new layer of the man behind Waddington Farm, Oglebay Park, and the legacy that continues to enrich our community.

🌿 Admission is free. June 22 @2pm at Oglebay Institute’s Mansion Museum
