Visit Wheeling, WV February 20–23 during Ceramics Take Over Wheeling 2025. This citywide event celebrates ceramic artists and enthusiasts alike.

Galleries and venues across the “Friendly City” are excited to showcase the very best in contemporary and traditional ceramic art during this newly organized four-day experience.

Attend workshops, sit in on artist demos and talks, explore the city through eight art exhibits, and end your trip with a Pottery Throwdown. Visit our unique local restaurants and taverns and fall in love with Oglebay Park and the historic charm of Wheeling.

Special lodge packages are available at Wilson Lodge in the world-class Oglebay Park. Enjoy beautiful accommodations, breakfast each day, admission to artist demonstrations, talks and an exciting Pottery Throwdown competition as well as two exclusive meet-and-greet cocktail parties.

Earth & Fire: A National Ceramic Art Exhibition

A signature event of Ceramics Take Over Wheeling is Earth & Fire 2025 a national juried exhibition featuring a collection of pieces created from earth and fired for lasting form and beauty.

The show offers $7,000 total in cash prizes, including a top prize of $4,000.

Admission is free. Donations accepted.

The exhibition is on display February 22—March 29, 2025.

Regular gallery hours are 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday and 10am-4pm, Saturday. Evening hours dependent on classes and special events.

Opening Reception

Join us at 6:30pm Saturday February 22, 2025 for the opening reception of Earth & Fire 2025. Explore the exhibition, discover who the winning artists are, enjoy refreshments, and shop the Pop Up Mug Shop for one-of-a-kind ceramic mugs created by featured artists.

Admission is free for the opening reception.

About the Stifel Fine Arts Center

Housed in the historic Edemar Mansion and part of the nonprofit Oglebay InstituteStifel Fine Arts Center is a treasure trove for artistic expression and personal fulfillment. As a public arts center, the community can enjoy our galleries, classrooms and performance spaces. Artists, art lovers, students, educators and families gather here to connect and engage in creative pursuits.

Tour our art galleries and see the work of local, regional and national artists. You can take a class in painting, pottery, jewelry making and more. Our classes and workshops provide knowledge and tools to explore the visual arts.

Upon the death of Mrs. Edward W. Stifel Sr. in 1976 at the age of 97, her children and their descendants deeded Edemar and the surrounding property to Oglebay Institute for use as a public arts center. An iconic focal point of the Dimmeydale neighborhood, the Stifel Fine Arts Center now welcomes thousands of people annually to its classrooms, galleries and picturesque grounds.
