Event Details
For more than 60 years, master photographer Jay Stock documented the traditions and cultures of North American Indian Tribes. A visual tribute to these tribes, Stock’s portraits reflect his respect for history and love of the human spirit while capturing deep emotional content. Each image is a discovery of creative concepts and insight into composition, lighting and design.
Visions of Our Native American Heritage provides a prism through which the pageantry and heritage of the American Indians may be viewed. It is also a tribute to Stock’s artistry. With the objective eye of the camera, a page of history has been recorded.
Headdresses, artifacts, ceramics, tools and jewelry from the collection of author, artist and historian Alan Fitzpatrick are also part of the exhibition. Copies of Jay’s limited edition book, Visions of Our Native American Heritage, will be available to purchase for $25 with proceeds going to Oglebay Institute’s Capital Campaign.
The exhibition is on display through October 29.
Sponsored by United Bank.
A free public opening reception takes place 1-3pm Sunday, September 12. Regular gallery hours are 9am-5pm Monday through Friday, 10am-4pm Saturday and during all classes and public events.
